Karen Hellinger was born and raised in the snowbelt region of Upstate New York.  She left in 2001 and moved to New Mexico.

She is a writer at heart and a published poet.  She has translated some of her poetry into Spanish.  Her previous writings are published under Karen Balch.

She has a Bachelor’s in General Studies, where she focused on literature, Technical Communication and Hispanic Studies, and a Master’s Certificate in Scientific and Professional Communication from New Mexico Tech.  She has an MA in English and Creative Writing with a fiction concentration from Southern New Hampshire University, and is a proud Penmen.

Karen spends her free time (haha) golfing, spending time with friends, and traveling.  She has written stories (and done homework) in hotel rooms, airports, airport lounges, planes, trains and automobiles all over the world.

Hellinger’s MA degree is her third, and final, degree…or so she says…and this blog is about the pains of being a writer and the blood, sweat and tears poured into her studies, and beyond the degree.
