Karen Balch was born and raised in the snowbelt region of Upstate New York.  She left in 2011 and moved to New Mexico to be with her husband and his two children.

She is a writer at heart and a published poet.  She has translated some of her poetry into Spanish.

She has a Bachelor’s in General Studies, where she focused on literature, Technical Communication and Hispanic Studies, and a Master’s Certificate in Scientific and Professional Communication from New Mexico Tech.  She is currently pursuing an MA in English and Creative Writing with a fiction concentration at Southern New Hampshire University.

Karen spends her free time (haha) golfing and traveling with her husband.  She has written stories (and done homework) in hotel rooms, airports, airport lounges, planes, trains and automobiles all over the world.

Balch’s MA degree is her third, and final, degree…or so she says…and this blog is about the pains of being a writer and the blood, sweat and tears poured into her studies.
